Summary, etc.: An introduction to a research-based model of sheltered instruction. This video uses classroom footage and researcher narration to concisely present the eight components of the SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) Model. Sheltered instruction has become a common instructional approach for language minority students, particularly as schools prepare students to achieve high standards. In a sheltered class, teachers use specific strategies to teach a content area in ways comprehensible to the students while promoting their English language development.
